Nixon-Smiley CISD Alternative Education Center (DAEP) is a rural school district located in a central Texas farming community. We serve thousands of diverse students from 8 communities and school districts (Cuero ISD, Gonzales ISD, Luling ISD, Marion ISD, Nordheim ISD, Waelder ISD, and Yorktown ISD) encompassing 376 square miles. The district is located approximately 50 miles southeast of San Antonio, 70 miles south of Austin, and 64 miles northwest of Victoria.

Student assigned to DAEP demonstrate various types of behaviors that prevent them from being able to participate on their home campus. Assigned days can range from 30-180 days.  The DAEP program promotes self discipline, social skills, credit recovery, attendance incentives, drop-out prevention, and a mentor program.
