Nixon-Smiley CISD has a vital interest in maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy learning environment for all of our students. We know that the use of illegal drugs poses a serious health and safety risk for the user, those students associated with the user, and potentially to the public. With that in mind, we are implementing a mandatory drug testing program for students in grades 7-12 who participate in school-sponsored, extra-curricular activities and/or who wish to park a vehicle on school property. Moreover, we will include 6th grade students in our program upon parent request.
By adopting this policy, we hope to send the message that the District cares about our students' health, safety and character. We further hope to undermine the effects of negative peer pressure by providing a legitimate reason for students to refuse to use illegal drugs.
