Update from Dr. Cathy Lauer

At a press conference on Wednesday, March 2, 2021, Governor Abbott rescinded the requirement for face coverings as of March 10th. Restrictions on crowd size were also withdrawn. While we are waiting for guidance from our governing agencies, Texas Education Agency (TEA) and University Interscholastic League (UIL), we wanted to check with our community to gather feedback in case we are able to choose how NSCISD moves forward. NSCISD has made the difficult decision to return to remote-only instruction as of November 20, 2020. To read more about this decision, click here.

November 20 - First Day of remote instruction
November 23 - 27th - Thanksgiving Break
November 30 - December 4th - Remote Instruction only
December 7th - Tentative return to in-person instruction

Once we return back to in-person only instruction, remote (on-line) learning will only occur for students who have a medically diagnosed condition or who have to miss school due to illness. Decisions will be made by a designated committee for these circumstances. Safety protocols will remain in place, such as thorough disinfecting of facilities, physical distancing as well as the use of face masks/shields. Our goal and first priority is to keep all students and staff members safe.

Meal Delivery

The Nixon-Smiley Consolidated Independent School District will provide free breakfast and lunch to any child from 1-18 years old. The meals will be served from Wednesday, August 12th through Monday, August 31st. This service will be provided daily, Monday through Friday. There will be a grab and go option where the student and/or parent may pick up at the cafeteria – breakfast from 7:30 – 9:00 am and lunch from 11:00 – 1:00 pm. We will also deliver breakfast/lunch combo meals by bus as we did back in March, April, and May. Buses will leave the cafeteria at 10:00 am and will run the same bus (meal) routes stopping at the locations we used previously. If you are not familiar with the stop that is nearest your location, you may call Kathy Kahn at 830-582-1536 ext. 117. We hope this service is useful for our community while we transition to instruction beginning September 1, 2020.
