Employee Benefits
Nixon-Smiley CISD is happy to offer some of the most competitive benefits in the state of Texas. Our goal is to allow all of our employees various options that fit the needs of their families. To enroll, change, or gather more information about our employee benefits, visit the Benefits Portal. N-S CISD group health coverage complies with Tex. Educ. Code 22.004(d).
Life insurance: The school district provides a $20,000 life insurance policy (at no cost) for each employee. You may purchase additional coverage amounts during open enrollment.
Flex Card (FSA): Is a medical expense debit card with an available balance of $500 per plan year. The card is offered (at no cost to employees) as an alternative for those who do not elect TRS Active Care medical insurance. Uses for the card must be for medical, dental, co-payments, prescription drugs, and some approved over-the-counter medications. FSA plans are governed by IRS rules and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
457 Savings Plan: The school district contributes to a 401(a) retirement plan designed to supplement a retirement plan or just get employees started on saving for the future! District contributions on behalf of the employee are 100% vested after five years of continuous employment. N-S CISD matches full-time employee 457 contributions up to 3% with a maximum of $1,500 annually (part-time employees are matched at 1/2 the rate/amount).
403b Savings Plan: U.S. OMNI & TSACG Compliance Services administers our IRS-approved 403b plan. More information about the plan, including approved investment providers, can be found HERE.
Dental: N-S CISD has contracted with Cigna Dental to provide employee dental benefits. Several options are available: DHMO, PPO High, or PPO Low plans.
Vision: Vision benefits are provided through MetLife Superior Vision. Employees seeking a temporary ID card may click HERE to print a "Generic ID Card". Using the link, you may also access information on covered vision care services and providers.
Daycare: Is available at the “Mini-Mustang Cottage” located next to the Middle School Campus. Services are provided by school district employees at reasonable full and half-day rates.
Leave: Each employee earns a total of ten leave days per year. Five of these days are granted through the state of Texas's personal leave program. State personal days may be accumulated without restriction and may be transferred among school districts in Texas. The remaining five days are local days granted by the School District. Local leave is treated as “sick” leave and subject to the same terms and conditions applicable to sick leave accumulated prior to the 1995-96 school year, except as otherwise provided by Board policy
Car/Phone/Travel Expenses: When available, the district maintains several vehicles for school business travel. Approved school-related expenses will be reimbursed on a monthly basis per district policy.
