Families of NSH Seniors: Wilson County News will be publishing the 2021 Tomorrow's Leaders graduation section in early June. The paper wants to give you, the Senior parents, information about placing a personal ad in this section for your son/daughter. These ads give the section a personal touch and are a way for you to recognize the child's achievements. Pricing ranges from $44.52, $89.04, $179.14, $359.34. There will be TSI tutoring available for the month of June in the Nixon-Smiley High School Library for High School Students. June 30 at 8:30 am we will administer the TSI test for any students who still need to take it. This test can be used to meet eligibility requirements for High School honors courses. Last night, the Lady Mustang Softball Team beat Stockdale 15-4 in 6 innings. We finished district play in 2nd place!! We will play Llano in the first round of playoffs next week. As soon as we gather all the information we will get it sent out. Sydney Wyrwich went 5/5 at the plate. Kendall Amaya and Mary Kate Garcia went 4/5 at the plate. Cecilia Villasana and Kiara Andrada went 2/4 at the plate and Mady Velasquez went 1/3. Kendall hit a 2-Run homerun in the 6th inning. Kendall pitched 4.1 innings, had 3 strikeouts and 4 walks. Mady came in, in the 4th inning and finished the last 2.2 innings, had 5 strikeouts and 1 walk. Our girls did an outstanding job tonight, we are so proud of them! We look forward to the next round. Softball Update: Nixon - Smiley and Stockdale are currently tied for second place in district. They will go head to head to determine which team will take second place. The game will be Thursday, April 22nd at Marion high school at 6pm. Tickets will go on sale this afternoon(3pm) on - line only through "ticket Spicket" on the Marion ISD website. Last night the Lady Mustang Softball team faced Marion, and won 15-14. We fought till the very end, came from behind and got the victory. Marion came in undefeated in district play until tonight. Our girls had a few errors in the game, but we over came them. Kendall Amaya pitched a great first two innings and Mady Velasquez came in and did an outstanding job finishing the game. At bat we had players that had multihits with RBI’s for the night: Kendall Amaya, Mady Velasquez, Sydney Wyrwich, Natalee Mendez, Greenlee Houseton, Mary Kate Garcia, Cecilia Villasana, Carli Cano, and Kiara Andrada. Kendall Amaya took one deep over the fence for a Homerun! Our ladies did an outstanding job tonight, we are very proud of them.

Both Zachary Perez and Sydney Wyrwich represented Nixon-Smiley very well at the area track meet. Both athletes medaled in their events. Zac placed third in the shot put and will be advancing to the regional meet Friday at Judson High School. Sydney placed sixth in the 100 meter dash. We would like to thank everyone for all of their support.

On Friday we played Randolph here at home and won 19-5. We had a few errors in the first inning, but then our bats were on fire. Mady Velasquez pitched for us the 5 innings that we played till we run ruled Randolph. She pitched 99 pitches. 11 strikeouts with only 4 walks. At bat we had several multihits with RBI's: Kendal Amaya went 2/3 (triple, double, HBP), Mady Velasquez was 3/4 (triple, double), Greenlee Houseton was 3/4 (over the fence HOMERUN), Cecilia Villasana was 2/4, Jaylee Bustos was 2/2 at bat (triple, double). Right now we are tied for 2nd in district play, our next game will be Tuesday here at home at 6:00 against Cole. Please come out and support our Lady Mustang Softball team!! Go Mustangs!!

Each and every one of these young men competed with exceptional class and character.
The Lady Mustangs competed at the District 26 AAA Meet this week. Our Lady Mustangs competed and worked very hard. For the Junior Varsity, Harley Hart placed 6th in Triple Jump and Diana Sanchez was 6th in the 400M Dash. In Varsity competition- Sydney Wyrwich placed 5th in Pole Vault, the 400M Relay team of Skylie Kitchens, Sydney Wyrwich, Yoana Hernandez and McKaylah Filla placed 6th, the 800M relay team of McKaylah Filla, Ariana Aguillon, Yoana Hernandez and Skylie Kitchens placed 6th, and Sydney Wyrwich placed 4th in the 100M dash. Qualifying for the Area Meet is Sydney Wyrwich in the 100M dash. The Area Meet is April 15th, at D.W. Rutledge Stadium at Judson ISD. All of our Lady Mustang track athletes worked really hard this season and made improvements throughout the season.

Last night our Mustang softball girls beat Luling 18-17. We persevered through all obstacles that came our way. Our lady Mustangs fought to the very end. We had two athletes that hit out of the park home runs for us, Kendal Amaya and Carli Cano. It was amazing to be apart of. Each athlete contributed to our success and we couldn’t be more proud of them!! Our Lady Mustangs are now 3-1 in district play and will play on the road in Marion on Thursday night at 6pm.

We will be purchasing Military Stoles for our Seniors who have signed with the US Military and have an enlistment date confirmed. Marion Track Meet Information: 1. Admission is FREE. 2. MASKS are required by spectators and athletes in all field event areas. 3. MASKS are required by spectators when entering, exiting and moving around the facility. When they are seated, they are more than welcome to take their masks off. 4. We will have a limited concession stand (water, sodas, powerade, chips, candy, etc.), but they are able to bring food and drink into the stadium.
Varsity Track will be going to Randolph HS on Thursday. The gate off of 1604 will be open for parents/spectators to enter Randolph AFB.
